Description

This isn't really canon, and it's not based off of anyone elses map. I made this up mainly for myself to refer back to when I make characters. Feel free to use it though if you want, just give me credit for the work. I just wanted my own resource for mapping out the prides. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
I actually tried mapping certain areas to the actual geological state of Africa. For instance, in the north, there is a huge desert. In the mid west, it's more jungle. In the mid east, it's basically a grassland, savanna type environment, and there is also the great rift valley, full of hills, mountains, and valleys. However, this is still all fictional, so if I’m wrong, it’s ok.

Before I start though, it's important to know that for me, I like to imagine the events of the Lion King taking place BEFORE widespread human advancments in technology. So I kind of like to imagine that this happened several thousands years ago, perhaps about 8,000 years ago, give or take a few thousand years. It's kind of an odd idea, but this way, the land is still all theirs. No cities to worry about or anything like that.
Other species have different borders for different reasons. Lion territory means little to them most of the time, and lions don’t police the other species. They wander as they wish. They have their own concerns.

Pridelands

The Pridelands have long been viewed as one of the top kingdoms to live. Their lands are lush support many prey animals, as well as having a sufficient water supply. There are two main seasons here, as with most all the kingdoms of Africa. The dry season and the wet season. Both are fairly average. The dry season can be harsh and hot, but livable, and the wet season brings all the water needed. The kingdom is mainly made up of large areas of savannah, grassland, and sparse forests. It’s also very diverse geographically. The Pridelands Kingsdom has existed for ages. People say it’s even before the time of the lions. Struggles with hyenas are also common to it’s history. Pridelanders are of medium to build most of the time, and strong and fit and tend to have bright colored coats. They aren’t dull, though some are dark, like Scar. They have been described as having the sun in their fur. Simba is the perfect example of the average Pridelander. Pridelanders are known for being friendly and kind towards other lions. In times of hardship, these lions take charge to work through it. Lions from the Pridelands understand that balance with other animals maintains a good life for everyone so they take care to respect all species in their kingdom. Often, kings and queens of the Pridelands are looked to first and foremost for advice. Lions from this kingdom are very proud. The Pridelands actually consists of many different prides, so prides are scattered about the kingdom, and are less united. The crown of this kingdom, is the pride of lions from Priderock, the most respected lions. Most of these lions are very outgoing, friendly, and brave with strong beliefs.

Outlands

The Outlands are famous for being a desperate and pathetic place to live. Lions hardly ever willing decide to live here. Other animals avoid it was well, except for those pushed their out of desperation. Food is minimal, and water is hard to find. Rain is scarce, so most plants don't grow either, except for those who are tough. It tends to have temperature extremes as well. During the dry season, it's extremely hot, and nights are cold. During the wet season it tends to be damp and cool. Overall the area is very rocky, with many cliffs and small mountains. This is one of the few benefits actually, as there are many caves provided. The Outlands have not always existed, but there have always been refugees living there. Most lions living here are banished or run aways and rogues. They are pushed to the edges of what is considered livable because they have no other choice. It is barely livable, so all those forced to leave their old lives come here. The Outlands have never had a true ruler. Most of them stick together in small groups and go about their lives. These lions are not small, but thin and light. The color of their coats is most often a bit dark, and the colors muddied or subdued. They are often times also a bit disheveled looking, with scruffy coats. Their appearance reflects the landscape. Dotty and Spotty are prime examples of typical outlanders.Due to this hard life, most lions that grow up living in the Outlands tend to be fierce, fiery, and very territorial. Laws are a luxury they cannot afford. They will never put up with anything they dislike. They don't care about the troubles of outsiders, and will hardly ever help out if they don't see it working to their advantage. They may not be so kind, but they can sure take care of themselves, and are known to be terrifying enemies in battle. There are very few old Outlanders, as most don’t make it to that age.

Hyena Territory

The territory on the northern border of the Pridelands holds an elephant graveyard, a bonus for hungry hyenas. This particular territory is similar in terrain to the Outlands. Territories to the west and south are much more bountiful. Skirmishes do occur at the borders, but mainly at the peak of the dry season, when food is running low. A well fed hyena is a happy hyena. Hyenas are not as well banded together as lion tribes, so they tend to have small lands scattered about Africa. Hyenas are actually quite friendly, but long standing tensions keep lions and hyenas apart. The largest territory in the south has the best resources, and they typically tend to get along with the neighboring lions very well. Often times, they are looked up to for advice because of their new view on a situation. Southern hyenas tend to be more tan and brown, and less grey than their northen neighbors.

Land of the Wise

This kingdom is the heart of the great rift valley, a very fertile, and diverse area. It is also the cradle of humankind. Some creatures say that The Land of the Wise is the gateway to the spirit world, and by extension, all of it's knowledge. The weather here is very similar to Priderock, though more less consistent, and heavier rainfall is common. It can also be much cooler. Because of the crazy terrain, different prey live here than what is common out on the grass lands. It is full of hills, valleys and cliffs. The pretty there it is enough for them to live on, although it is not the most 'fruitful' place for food. They say it's inhabitants are blessed though, and that they are the reincarnation of great rulers past. Also, lions here tend to be large, and sturdy, with full, healthy bodies. Their colors are usually darker and more muted than those of the Pridelands. Sarabi is a good example. Lions from this area are gentle, dignified, and somewhat reclusive. Unless needed, they tend to keep to themselves. There isn't much else they need outside of their valley. Interestingly, they hardly ever have a leader. There has never been much of a need for one here, as each lion is their own ruler. When leadership is needed, councils of the old and wise come together.

Mistlands

Few venture here, because it is such a foreign place. However, Simba grew up here. He did not know it at the time, but he was in the Mistlands. The Mistlands are the dark, wet, jungles. Food is widely available, but often come from unusual sources than the great beasts of the grasslands. No one has to fight for a meal though. Things are run very different here. Lions often have to look up to a new ruler, the Gorillas and Chimps. With their strength and wisdom, they rule the jungle. This works to their advantage though. Life in the Mistlands is often very easy and laid back since they are not the species in charge. Leopards are also great leaders of the Jungle, and battle between them and the apes is a frequent thing. Most jungle lions tend to be smaller than average, with shaggier fur, though the manes of the males tend to not be as full. It is more like an extension of their fur, instead of a full mane like the males of the Savannah. Scar is a good example, though with a more adolescent mane. They tend to be dark in color, but not muted. They shimmer amongst the trees. The lions can vary in personality, but most are open and often playful. However, some groups can be very mystical and secretive. The Mistlands is sometimes considered the land of the child.

Lands of the Ghost Prides
The Ghostlands are usually avoided by most lions from the south. It is deadly hot, and windy. Food and water are at a premium for lions here. The only place that is comfortable to live is along the great Nile river. The land is made up mostly of wide expanses of sand dunes, rocky hills, and the occasional small oasis. They tend to be of medium size, but light and lean, like the outlanders. They do not have long fur, but are scruffy looking. Males have much shorter manes. They tend to be warm, light colored lions, with somewhat subdued colors, though they can be varied. Their paws are often bigger to accommodate walking on sand, and the lines around the eyes are more pronounced. Vitani is a good example of the ghost prides. Lions of the Ghostland have learned that a trust based system of sharing works better in the long run than desperate, greedy hoarding. These lions do quite well within their own groups, but tend to be more cold to outsiders. The desert dwelling lions of this kingdom are few, far scattered and elusive. Many are not even truly part of a pride, and roam the territory, occasionally meeting up with others. They cannot afford to settle into large groups. Commonly, wandering groups will have five or less members, but all of them share common routes of travel, so they meet often. If someone is in dire need, they will always lend a hand. There is an area with a sizable, non migrating pride along the Nile river, where most of the resources are. Ghost land lions are courteous, but to the point. This can be mistaken for rudeness some times.

Deadlands
As the name states, this territory is almost completely unlivable. Only the desperate try to survive here. The territory is large, and dangerous to cross. The heat and dry air are notorious killers, as well as the cold nights. Winds here are also a nightmare. Food is near nonexistent. Though no permanant prides live her, most lions tend to resemble Zira with a more half starved appearance. Most are refugees, and rogues, chased from their homes into the deadly desert, or in hiding. Those who do make a living there are fiercely independent and territorial. They cannot afford to share what they have, no matter the situation.

Northerlands
This area is a paradise compared to the Deadlands and The Land of Ghost Prides. The weather is still dry and harsh, but much more bearably so. It is not as well off as the more southern kingdoms though. This area has many hills and valleys, and tends to be rocky. With cliffs and caves. The lions here are generally smaller, and very lean. They coats are darker and duller, as well as scruffy. Some of the outlanders, like Dotty and Nuka, are good examples of their appearance. These lions are a proud, strong group of lions. They tend to migrate for food and water often. They love to celebrate any chance they get, and they love company. Guests always mean a celebration. They are welcome to help however they can. They rarely fight other groups.

Roughlands
The roughlands are similarly dry to the Northerland, but with more vegetation. It is categorized by roughy rocky landscape, and rolling hills covered in short brush. There isn’t much in the way of shelter. It rains more than in the north and gets cold sometimes. Most predators avoid this area, but prey animal don't mind it at all so food isn't terribly hard to come by. Lions here are fairly hardy. They tend to be small and medium, with muted colors and rough coats. Nuka is a good example of a Roughlander. They don't get along well with outsiders, though they try to make an effort. Most outsiders just tend to find them rude and unlikable, and sometimes even a bit vulgar.

Rainlands
This kingdom lives entirey along the coast and surrounding land. As the name suggests, it rains very often here. It is cooler here than most lands. It is also a bit rocky, with many cliffs. The vegetation is lush, but since it's so close to the coast, there aren't as many large land prey animals as there are further inland. Coastal lions are usually of medium build, sometimes large, with light colored, very smooth coats. Nala is a good example. Males tend to have thinner, longer manes, instead of the thick of the main land. Lions here live almost entirely off of what they can get from the coast and sea. They have also taken up the strange habit of eating seaweed. Lions here are very friendly and open. They are hard workers and very helpful. They can be almost annoying with their need to be helpful.
Sunlands
Lions here are almost exactly like in the Rainlands in personality and appearance. The main difference with the two is the less rain that this area gets. Cliffs are more prevalent as well, so lions tend to be good climbers and swimmers.
Hardlands
This area is similar to the rainlands and the sunlands, but it storms violently. This makes life more difficult for lions here. There are many cliffs and caves in the area. The lions are similar too, but Hardland lions tend to be more hardy and darker colored.

Grasslands/Lands of Prey
This is huge expanse of lush grassland, inhabited by many types of animals. There are many hills and mountains here. The climate is similar to the Pridelands, but with more rain. The ecosystem can support many animals, so no one goes hungry in the Grasslands. They are very similar to Pridelanders in appearance and behavior. They are easy going and friendly. There are actually many individual prides living here. No one group has control over another, and leadership is uncommon among them.

Stonelands
The Stonelands kingdom is comprised of mountains mainly. The area is covered in rocks and stones. It can be very cold, and it’s one of the few areas to get much snow. Not much grows here except for trees and shrub. It is a difficult area to live. The lions here are usually large and strong. They tend to be very scruffy and thick furred, and dull in color as well, however their coats are much paler than the outlanders. Most of the lions that do live here are like Outlanders. They are less inclined to fighting though, and can be very intelligent. Their personalities are also cold.

Borderlands/Freelands
In terrain and climate, this area tends to be very much like the Grasslands. However, instead of being an actual kingdom, is it not ruled by any lions. Many rogues live here, and prides that do not wish to be affiliated with a kingdom. They vary widely in appearance, but the majority tend to medium sized, large, and dark like Kovu. They are very friendly and kindhearted, but they love their freedom more than anything. This land was set aside for lions like them to live without worry.

European Prides
These lands are cold and covered in trees. Prey is different as well. Lions from here tend to be large, and strong. They are very serious and hardworking, but they love to have a good time as well, and can be very funny, although African lions do not always understand their flavor of humor.
Middle Eastern Prides
This land is almost exactly like the Land of the Ghost Prides. The lions are similar as well. They are very mysterious, and not much is known about them.
Asian Prides
This area is varied in terrain and climate, but for the most part tends to be very fertile. Lions here are friendly and kind hearted, though very reserved and polite. Many of them tend to be pale coated.

I wonder how do you come up with such a good map? I have a lion pride called the Odo pride but I don't know what the Eastern Valleys could be like.
